When Detective Spooner attempts to interrogate it, the hologram repeatedly replies, “My responses are limited.” Near the end of the film, Spooner finally asks the right question — and the hologram responds, “That’s the right question.”
That moment resonated deeply with me, because it perfectly encapsulates a challenge that’s all too common in enterprise technology and End User Computing (EUC) management.
A Lesson from Experience
Many years ago, I led a Windows 7 migration for a global bank. The project ran smoothly overall, but one persistent technical issue continued to frustrate the team. We had daily stand-ups, workshops, risk logs, and weekly RAIDD reports — yet the problem lingered.
One afternoon, while working through the issue with our lead developer — an exceptionally talented engineer — I had a sudden realisation. I turned to him and said, “All we need to do to fix this is this!”
He smiled calmly and replied, “I know.”
Surprised, I asked, “Then why didn’t you say anything?”
He looked genuinely puzzled and said, “You never asked me.”

That conversation stayed with me. It revealed a critical truth about how technical and management teams communicate:
the people with the deepest technical knowledge often hold the key information — but they share only what they think is relevant, not necessarily what you need to know.
